The Mediaeval Combat Society is a British Living history and combat reenactment society whose aim is to educate the public by using reenactment and combat reenactment[1] to portray life, during the times of Edward III.
The society undertakes research into various topics such as Brasses and medieval Church monument, as well as into events of the time including Crecy, Battle of Poitiers (1356), Battle of Nájera.
Origins
The Mediaeval Combat Society was formed as a non profit making organisation to entertain[2] the public and for charity fund raising[3] through historical reenactment around 1970, and has worked with many other groups as in its early years with the Norse Film and Pageant Society (NFPS). The society has performed further afield in France, Poland and Portugal
Objectives
The Mediaeval Combat Society aim is to educate[4] the public whilst entertaining[5] them, in the life and times of Edward III.
Events
The Mediaeval Combat Society are an active society who take part in a number of events each year,[6] including events at a variety of locations[7][8][9] such as Mountfitchet Castle and undertakes filmwork, such as Red Dwarf,[10] Heroes in History, and the Ryder Cup for Sky HD.
Membership
Full membership of The Mediaeval Combat Society is open to anyone over the age of 18. In the UK, children aged 16 and 17 are allowed to train for combat displays when accompanied by an adult.
