Mem Soares de Melo (1200?-1262) was a Portuguese Noblemen, 1st Lord de Melo.

Biography

Born approximately 1200, in Portugal, son of Soeiro Raimundes de Riba de Vizela, and wife Urraca Viegas Barroso,[1] and according a prestigious Portuguese genealogist, he was a descendant of two Visigoth kings.[2] Soares de Melo was married to Teresa Afonso Gato, daughter Affonso Pires o Gato and Urraca Fernandes de Lumiares,[3] a distant descendant of Mendo Alão and his wife an Armenian princess.[4]

Mem Soares de Melo, founder of the Mello family, and member of the court of King Afonso III of Portugal, as alferes-mor,[5] Lieutenant of Gouveia, and Counselor.[6]

Men Soares de Melo was owner of two Castles in Gouveia and Linhares.[7]
