Merrilands is a suburb of New Plymouth, in the western North Island of New Zealand. It is located to the south-east of the city centre. The Waiwhakaiho River runs past Merrilands to the east, and Te Henui Stream runs past to the west.[1]

The population was 2,787 in the 2006 Census, an increase of 60 from 2001.[2]

Education

Merrilands School is a coeducational contributing primary (years 1-6) school with a decile rating of 6 and a roll of 184.[3] The school was established in 1960.[4]

Shopping

There is one main shopping centre located in Merrilands. This is located on the corner of Cumberland and Mangorei roads. Shops there include New World Supermarket, pharmacy, hair salon, dentist, medical centre, along with a Z fuel station.

There is one pub in Merrilands called the Stumble Inn, which often has live music and hosts a range of musicians.
