Michael Hibberd (born 3 January 1990) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL).

Hibberd comes from the small town of Somerville on the Mornington Peninsula.[1] He spent two-years playing for Frankston in the VFL before being drafted. He came 5th in the seniors in his first year at the club an was awarded "best first year player" then in his second year at the club took out the Senior best and fairest award.

He won the Fothergill-Round Medal in 2010 as the VFL's most promising young player.[2]

Hibberd was drafted by Essendon with the fourth pick in the 2011 pre-season draft [3] and made his debut in round 6, 2011 against Gold Coast at Etihad Stadium.

In September 2011, He pleaded guilty to assault charges in relation to a late night fight that occurred in Mornington in July 2011. He escaped conviction, but received a $2500 fine and was suspended for the remainder of the season by Essendon for a drunken attack in which he knocked a man out.[4]

On 12 January 2016 Hibberd was named as one of 34 past and present Essendon players found guilty over their use of illegal supplements during the 2012 AFL season. As a result, Hibberd was suspended for twelve months, effective from November 2015, meaning he will miss the entire 2016 AFL season.[5]
