Michigan Architectural Foundation

Michigan Architectural Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing public awareness and understanding of how architecture enriches life. The Foundation does this by serving as an informational resource and by disseminating grants for architectural projects and scholarships for architectural students.

Some of the recent projects that received funding under the annual David Evans Memorial Grant for Historic Preservation include Detroit's Indian Village, the Belle Isle Aquarium and Ted's House in Kalamazoo. In addition, the Michigan Architectural Foundation established the Dumke Development Fund in 2011, honoring Rae Dumke, retired AIA Michigan Executive Director. This Fund has been used to start an architectural library, including a children's collection, housed in the Birmingham, MI public library and several other locations.

The Foundation also has produced curriculum for use in elementary classrooms called Architecture - It's Elementary. All materials are available online at no charge. In addition, the Foundation is partnering with Detroit Public Television (DPTV) to create a new video-based program is called Architreks, encouraging architectural interest in young people.

The Foundation is supported largely by donations, including a silent auction that is held annually during AIA Michigan's Summer Conference.
