The mottled grouper (Mycteroperca rubra) is a species of fish in the Serranidae family.^[1] It is found in Albania, Algeria, Angola, Benin, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cameroon, Cape Verde, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Croatia, Cyprus, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Greece, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Serbia and Montenegro, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, and Western Sahara.

Parasites

Philometra inexpectata, a nematode parasite of the mottled grouper ^[2]

As most fish, the mottled grouper harbours a variety of parasites. These include the diplectanid monogenean Pseudorhabdosynochus regius on the gills ^[3] and the philometrid nematode Philometra inexpectatata in the gonad.^[2]
