The NXT Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling tag team championship owned and competed for exclusively in WWE NXT, WWE's developmental territory. The championship is generally contested in professional wrestling matches, in which participants execute worked finishes.
History
The championship was introduced on the January 23, 2013, episode of NXT where it was announced by special guest Shawn Michaels that there would be a tournament to crown the inaugural champions.[1]
On the January 31, 2013, the British Ambition (Adrian Neville and Oliver Grey) defeated The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan) to become the inaugural champions.[2] However, in the first defense of the title, Neville and Bo Dallas defended the NXT Tag Team Title against Wyatt Family due Grey being injured, where they lost. Dallas isn't recognized as champion.[3] On 20 June, Neville and Corey Graves defeated Wyatt Family for the titles, making Neville the first person to hold the title in more than one occasion and Wyatt Family the shortest reign, with 49 days.[4][5] The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor) holds the record of longest reign in 364 days (September 12, 2013[6] - September 11, 2014[7]). The current champions are American Alpha in their first reign.
