Na dobre i na złe (Polish pronunciation: [na ˈdɔbrɛ i na ˈzwɛ], For better and for worse) is a Polish television medical drama series, broadcast on TVP2 since November 7, 1999. Currently in its 17th season and with over 600 episodes, it is the longest-running weekly primetime drama on Polish TV and one of the longest-running medical dramas in the world. The show revolves around the lives of doctors and patients of a hospital in a fictional town of Leśna Góra near Warsaw.

Na dobre i na złe has been very popular among the viewers. It won the "Telekamery" award (the most important television award in the Polish entertainment industry) for the best TV series in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

Characters

Burski family

• Zofia Stankiewicz-Burska - an anesthesiologist who works in Leśna Góra. She comes from Krosno, Poland and studied medicine with Jakub Burski, Bruno Walicki and Edyta Kuszyńska. During her studies, Zofia was engaged to Jakub Burski who also loved Edyta. She lived in Cracow, Poland but engaged to Mikołaj Mellado, moved to Leśna Góra near Warsaw and started working in a local hospital. Few months later she met Julia Nowak, a girl who was injured in a car accident and her parents died. Zofia decided to adopt Julia. Then she split up with Mikołaj, because he was a gay. Zofia adopted Julia and married Jakub Burski in 2000. She thought that she cannot have children, but became pregnant and gave birth to their first daughter, Amelia Burska. She is also step mother to Jakub's son, Tomasz Burski. Zofia has one sister, Margaret Donovan who lived in Australia.
• Jakub Burski - a surgeon who worked in Leśna Góra. He comes from a medical family, his father also was a surgeon and owned a medical clinic in Boston. He came to Poland in 1999 and planned to stay here for few months and back to the USA. Jakub learnt that he has a son and decided to change his plans. His son Tomasz was a result of his romance 16 years before. Tomasz's mother died in a car accident and Jakub decided to adopt the boy, gave him his surname and stay in Poland. He started working in Leśna Góra where he met his former girlfriend, Zofia Stankiewicz and friend Bruno Walicki. Jakub had a romance with Agata Kwiecińska who was hospital's manager. Agata became pregnant but then lost their child and they split up. Jakub married Zofia Stankiewicz in 2000. They have one daughter, Amelia Burska. In 2011 Jakub worked in Australia and now he plans to work in Berlin, Germany.
• Tomasz Burski, formerly Kozal - son of Jakub Burski and his former girlfriend, adopted son of Zofia Stankiewicz - Burska. Tomasz lived in Toruń, Poland but after his mother's death he came to Leśna Góra to meet his father, a famous surgeon - Jakub Burski. Tomasz stayed in Leśna Góra and was engaged to Agnieszka Walicka. In 2011 he finished his medical studies and became a doctor as his father and grandfather. He works in Warsaw.
• Julia Burska, formerly Nowak - adopted daughter of Jakub Burski and Zofia Stankiewicz - Burska. She went to the Leśna Góra hospital after a car accident. Her parents died and she had only an aunt who had six own children. Julia was adopted by Zofia and then by Jakub. Now she studies in Australia.
• Amelia Burska - daughter of Jakub Burski and Zofia Stankiewicz - Burska.

Walicki family

• Bruno Walicki - best friend of Zofia Stankiewicz - Burska and Jakub Burski. Bruno worked in Leśna Góra hospital. He was married to Elżbieta Walicka, with whom he has three children: Agnieszka Walicka, Paweł Walicki and Stanisław Walicki. When Elżbieta was pregnant with Stanisław, she had a car accident. She died, but Stanisław was born healthy. Bruno then had a romance with Monika Zybert and she gave birth to their daughter Hanna. Bruno doesn't know that Hanna is his daughter. Walicki went to Sweden and married again.
• Elżbieta Walicka, from family Kalita - daughter of Michał Kalita, wife of Bruno Walicki, mother of Agnieszka Walicka, Paweł Walicki and Stanisław Walicki. When she was pregnant with her third child, she has had a car accident. Her second son was born, but she died few hours later.
• Agnieszka Walicka - daughter of Bruno Walicki and Elżbieta Walicka, sister of Paweł Walicki, Stanisław Walicki and Hanna Jędras. Agnieszka was engaged to Tomasz Burski.
• Paweł Walicki - elder son of Bruno Walicki and Elżbieta Walicka, brother of Agnieszka Walicka, Stanisław Walicki and Hanna Jędras.
• Stanisław Walicki - younger son of Bruno Walicki and Elżbieta Walicka, brother of Agnieszka Walicka, Paweł Walicki and Hanna Jędras. He was born after his mother's car accident and she died few hours later.
• Hanna Jędras, formerly Zybert - daughter of Bruno Walicki and his former girlfriend, Monika Zybert - Jędras. Bruno doesn't know that he's Hanna's biological father, only Agnieszka Walicka knows the truth. Hanna is adopted by her mother's husband, Krzysztof Jędras.
• Michał Kalita - father of Elżbieta Walicka, grandfather of Agnieszka Walicka, Paweł Walicki and Stanisław Walicki. He widowed and then married Gabriela Krukowska who was Jakub Burski's friend.
• Gabriela Kalita, de domo Krukowska - wife of Michał Kalita, step mother of Elżbieta Walicka, mother in law of Bruno Walicki. She was Jakub Burski's guardian, best friend of his parents and then she met Michał Kalita and married him.

Doctors who work in Leśna Góra hospital

• Wiktoria Consalida - a surgeon. Her father is Spanish, her mother is Polish. She became pregnant when she was 16 and gave birth to her daughter Bianka Consalida. Her parents adopted the girl and she was raised as Wiktoria's younger sister. The truth was relevaled when Bianka needed a complicated operation and her father Wojciech was founded. Wiktoria studied medicine in Warsaw. She was engaged to Przemysław Zapała for a long time but they split up because she didn't tell him that she's a mother. Consalida had a romance with Piotr Gawryło.
• Hana Goldberg - neonatologist ang gynecologist. Her father is Polish, her mother is from Israel. She works in Leśna Góra hospital since 2011. Hana was married to James Coldwell who was a photographer and died in April 2009 during his work in Africa. He was 36 years old. She's Przemysław Zapała's half sister.
• Przemysław Zapała - a surgeon who works in Leśna Góra hospital since 2008. He studied medicine in Warsaw and was engaged to Wiktoria Consalida but they separated after he learnt that Wiktoria has a daughter. Przemysław has a half sister, Hana Goldberg. He is dating Ludmiła Papierniak, former patient of Leśna Góra hospital.
• Nina Rudnicka - a surgeon who works in Leśna Góra hospital. She was engaged to Andrzej Falkowicz in the past but now she's dating Michał Sambor.
• Michał Sambor - a surgeon who works in Leśna Góra hospital. He had a romance with Dorota Lewkiewicz, who was married and they have one child, son Krzysztof Sambor. Shortly after his birth Dorota was killed in a car accident. Michał is dating Nina Rudnicka.
• Ruud Van Graaf - an anesthesiologist who works in Leśna Góra hospital. Hecomes from the Netherlands and now he lives in Poland. He is married to Bożysława Van Graaf and is her fifth husband.
• Dariusz Wójcik - a gynecologist who works in Leśna Góra hospital.
• Piotr Gawryło - a surgeon who works in Leśna Góra hospital. His friend was Jakub Burski but then Gawryło fell in love with Jakub's wife, Zofia Stankiewicz - Burska. Then he had a romance with Wiktoria Consalida. He has one daughter, Antonina Soszyńska with his former girlfriend. Antonina is believed to be daughter of famous professor Soszyński.
• Milena Latoszek, de domo Starska - a doctor, she's married to Witold Latoszek and has a son, Feliks Latoszek.
