National Institute of Design, Vijayawada or NIDV is an upcoming design institute located in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The Institute started functioning on 7 September 2015.[1] It is currently running in transit campus at Acharya Nagarjuna University, Namburu, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

The National Institute of Design, Vijayawada (NIDV) is a design school in Vijayawada, India. The institute functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, government of India.

Courses offered

The institute offers one main course which follows the two semester per year pattern.

Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD)

This 4 year course is offered in three specialsations by NID Vijayawada. Until 2014, NID Ahemdabad too used to confer this diploma, however has conferred a Bachelors degree since 2014 when the National Institute of Design Act 2014 was passed, allowing the institute to do so. This course has a total of 60 seats. Even though it is a Diploma level certification, it is at par and better than other major Design institutes in India by virtue of it being run by the Central Government.

Infrastructure

The transit campus for the institute has been set up at the EEE & ECE Block, Acharya Nagarjuna University. The current campus include Studios, Knowledge Management Centre (Library) and I.T. Lab. Also, the institute provides students with full-time internet access for all kinds of research and knowledge gathering.

Studio

The campus currently has 3 studios where the students can learn and grow as a designer.

Knowledge Management Centre (Library)

The library at the campus is well acquainted with books and reading material for students, accessible at all college hours. The library is still building up and growing fast. It also contains discs with digital information which can be used by faculty as well as students.

I.T. Lab

The I.T. Lab for students is well equipped with latest generation of work-stations with its own local server. I.T. Lab also provides access to internet throughout the day and all kind of latest licensed software that are required for the design purposes.

Chakradhar Saswade

Professor at NID'A who initiated the course at NID'V with orientation programme. Set the base for students and also guided us in other following courses such as environmental perception and space form and structure.

Aprajita Barai

A fresh young designer, took classes in perception and design thinking. Thereby helping students to incorporate a designers eye..!!

Vikram G. A.

Being one of the best teachers among all, Vikram Sir mentored students through the Visual Design basics, Analytical Drawing Courses, Basic Material course and Environmental perception course. His guidance has proved to be of immense value and help allowing students to be bold with their endeavours.

Ashok Mondal

His keen expertise in ceramics and material handling encouraged students to explore materials beyond what was known to them.

J. L. Naik

Senior most faculty member, J. L. Naik Sir and his course were most looked forward to. A huge amount of learning was received and skills were honed in his Basic design class. This course was supplemented with outdoor sketching and more such interesting elements, which consequently proved to improve hand skills.

Pallavi Patke

Her enthusiasm and charm infused us with a need to understand the history of Design as we know it. We learnt exactly how we reached the present scenario of Design Study.

Prarthana Patil

Indian perspective of Design is something as NIDians we need to keep in mind. Ma'am taught us the ethics and principles of what being a designer means.

Sarvanan Laxmanan

Perspectives, human anatomy and nature study. Saravanan sir a textile designer by proffession, induced in us the sense of grasping the minute details of the surroundings as well as giving the freedom to use the non cliche mediums.

Garima Oswal and D. Dinesh

The analytical thinking, visual conceptualization and the importance of shapes and forms in nature and how beautifully they exist around us was very well comprehended by our faculty for geometric course, Garima ma'am and dinesh sir. We learnt how maths and inter-relation of shapes and 3 Dimensional figures exist in our surroundings.

Paresh Choudhary

Heading one of the most important courses of second semester..Space form and structure, Sir not only impressed the students with his witty yet light humour yet made us appreciate communication design through his unique and brainstorming set of assesments.

Vijay Moparthy

With a completely different take and approach on media, sir enthralled the students as they witnessed what all goes inside the media world through a designers eye.


Hostel Facility

The institute provides hostel facility in the society named IJM Rain Tree Park, Situated opposite to Acharya Nagarjuna University. The students are provided with 3-BHK Flats in Maple Block, with maids who clean the flats on daily basis. Mrs. Vijaya Lakshmi is the care taker of the flats. There are two wardens, Mr. RamaKrishna and Mrs. Kumari. Each Flat consisit of six students, two in each room system.

Mess Facility

Another Flat in the same block is used for mess for students which provide them food with all three times. The lunch is brought to college and served.

Proposed NIDs

National Institute of Design, Kurukshetra is under construction which was opened by Haryana CM Bhupendra Singh Hooda in 2012. The creation of four NIDs was suggested as part of the Government's 2007 National Design Policy.[2]

The foundation stone for National Institute of Design Jorhat was laid by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in February 2011,[3] while land has also been earmarked for the Andhra Pradesh campus in the state capital Amaravati.
