New Zealand State Highway 33
State Highway 33 (SH 33) is a New Zealand State Highway in the Bay of Plenty in the North Island. It is one of two state highways (along with SH 36) that form a north-south connection between the cities of Tauranga and Rotorua, SH 33 being the most easterly of the two.
Route description
The route begins at SH 2 at Paengaroa. In 2015, the SH 2/SH 33 intersection was upgraded to a roundabout in preparation of the opening of the Tauranga Eastern Link (which connects SH 33 to Tauranga, Papamoa and Mount Maunganui). SH 33 travels mostly through hillside before reaching the side of Lake Rotoiti and Okere Falls on the east side and Lake Rotorua on the west. SH 33 terminates with SH 30 at Te Ngae junction. From here Rotorua bound traffic continues straight and eastbound traffic on SH 30 turns left.
