Nguyễn Xuân Phúc (born 20 July 1954, in Quảng Nam Province) is eighth and current Prime Minister of Vietnam, since 2016. He is a member of the 11th, 12th Politburo, in which he is ranked 14th, making him one of the lowest ranked member.[1] Since a party congress in January 2016, Phuc has been ranked third in the hierarchy of the Communist Party of Vietnam, after General Secretary of the Communist Party Nguyễn Phú Trọng and President Trần Đại Quang

Life and career

He was born on 20 July 1954, at commune of Quế Phú, district of Quế Sơn, Quảng Nam province. He took economic management at Hanoi National Economic University from 1973 to 1978. He was accepted to join Communist Party of Vietnam on 12 May, 1982, officially became a member of this party on 12 November 1983.[2] From 1978 to 1979 he was a personnel at Quảng Nam-Đà Nẵng Economic Board. From 1980-1993: Phúc was an employee, than deputy, rising to Chief of Office of Quảng Nam – Đà Nẵng People's Committee. He studied administrative management at Vietnam Vietnam National Administrative Academy.

From 1993 – 1996: he was the Director of Department of Planning and Investment of Quang Nam-Da Nang Province. He studied economic management at National University of Singapore.

From 1997 – 2001: He became the permanent member of the provincial party committee (17th, 18th session); Vice Chairman, then the first Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee of Quang Nam Province and Director of Industrial Zones Management Board of Quang Nam Province. He was the a member of the provincial People's Council (6th session).

From 2001 – 2004: Vice Secretary of provincial party committee of Quang Nam Province, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam Province (term from 1999 – 2004). He was a member of Vietnam's National Assembly of 11th session, head of Quang Nam Province's members of the National Assembly, member of the Committee for Economy and Budget of the National Assembly (11th session).
