.one is a top-level domain. It was proposed in ICANN's New generic top-level domain (gTLD) Program, and became available to the general public on May 20, 2015. One.com A/S (Denmark)[1] unit One Registry[2] and ARI Registry Services (a Neustar[3] subsidiary) are the registries for the domain.
Due to the success of the One.com [4] webhosting and domain name registrations business head-quartered in Denmark from 2002 consisting of 1 million customers in over 140 countries and having support services in Denmark, Dubai and India and also wanting internal and external respect and status by its owning the generic 'One' word in the .com string which could erode if control over the word to the right of the dot was lost, once the ICANN's New generic top-level domain (gTLD) Program became a reality, One.com A/S took the opportunity and diversified upstream from being only a registrar to becoming registry[5] for .one -- from being left of the dot player only to becoming right of the dot player also. On December 2014 it passed the New gTLD Program String Delegation Readiness examination.[6]
As on February 2016, One.com A/S is the second highest registrar for .one out of its 107 accredited registrars.[7]
It has 50,629 registrations as on February 2016 without heavy marketing effort offering first year hyper cut-price promotions to boost numbers and based on new generic top-level domain registrations .one was number 37.[8] The website migration from One.com to One.one has not happened as yet, nor the One.com A/S Danish company name change to One.one A/S, perhaps because the awareness and usability of the new top-level domains is at early stages besides the possibility of a trademark infringement which could be claimed by their competitor, 1and1.
The wholesale and retail price for .one is much lower than other new top-level domains. .one is an alternative to and competitor to .org, .net, .com, .biz, .info and various other new gTLD strings. The 'themes' for using .one for products and services are uniqueness, search and ultimate find, one world and unity.
