Nicole Johnson (July 12, 1985)[1][2][3] is an American model and beauty queen who was crowned Miss California USA 2010. She was first runner-up in 2007.

Early life

Johnson, the daughter of teacher Annette Johnson and pharmaceutical sales manager Richard Johnson,[4] moved with her family from Pennsylvania to Westlake Village, California, while in childhood.[1] She attended the Los Cerritos middle school Thousand Oaks, California, and graduated from Westlake High School in 2003.[1]

When Johnson was 17, she read an advertisement in the Thousand Oaks Acorn for Miss California Teenager.[1] Johnson, a Moorpark College student at the time, wanted to transfer to the University of Southern California and thought the scholarship would help pay her education.[1] Out of 304 contestants Johnson took first runner-up.[1]

In 2007, Johnson graduated with honors from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.[5] During her time at USC she focused on sports entertainment.[5] After college she went on to work as a financial assistant,[4] and later as a production assistant for the ESPN ESPY Awards.[5]

Miss USA 2010

Nicole placed in the top 10 at the Miss USA 2010 pageant and continued California's sixth consecutive placement.[1][5][6][7] She was sponsored by INTA Gems and Diamonds, Agua Caliente and Tony Bowls.[8]

Personal life

Her parents are Rick and Annette Johnson (divorced) and she has a younger brother, Ricky. Johnson formerly worked for Mercedes Benz and before her departure prior to the Miss USA pageant was promoted to Finance Assistant at the dealership.[9]

On February 21, 2015, Johnson became engaged to swimmer Michael Phelps. They met in 2009 and temporarily broke up in 2012.[10] On November 18, 2015, the couple announced that they are expecting a son in May 2016.[11]
