The Nicosia derby refers to the Nicosia's local derby, football matches played between any two of Omonia and APOEL,.[1] It is widely regarded as one of the fiercest football rivalries in Cyprus due to continuous fights and riots amongst the teams' fans.[2]
Background
The rivalry became on 1948, when APOEL decides that the communist players must not able to play football with APOEL, and few months later Omonia was founded. The first derby was played in 1953 and the score was 0-0
