Noel Sheehy
Noel Sheehy (born 5 December 1964 in Nenagh, County Tipperary, Ireland) is an Irish retired sportsperson. He played hurling and football with his local club Silvermines GAA in Tipperary, and was a member of the Tipperary senior inter-county team from 1986 to 1997. Sheehy won All-Ireland winners' medals in 1989 and 1991, and five Munster winners' medals in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, and 1993.[1] He also won National Hurling League titles in 1988 and 1994.[2] Sheehy was a member of the Tipperary minor team which won the All-Ireland title in 1982 and the U-21 side which won in 1985. He was named as full-back on the All-Star hurling teams of 1990 and 1991. He received the RTE Sunday Game Man-of-the-Match award for his performance in the 1991 All-Ireland semi-final win against Galway. Noel won Railway Cup honours with Munster in 1992, when he was the winning captain.
With his club, Noel won North Tipperary Intermediate hurling championship medals in 1987, 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999 and in the latter year helped his club to win the county Intermediate championship for only the second time. Noel played in goal for the club minors in 1980 when they won the North Tipperary Minor B hurling title. He frequently played in the forwards with the cub in his early years and won his minor and U-21 All-Ireland medals in the half-forward line. He won a North Tipperary Junior football medal in 1987. In 1989, when he won his first All-Ireland senior hurling medal, Noel became one of only five Tipperary players to have won All-Ireland medals at minor, U-21 and senior levels on the field of play. His teammates on that day in 1989, John Kennedy, Aidan Ryan, Colm Bonnar and Nicky English were the other members of that elite club. In 2010 another seven players joined the group by winning U-21 and senior medals that year.
Sheehy was the manager of the Tipperary Under 21 team in 2002 where Tipperary lost to Limerick in the Munster final.
