Nordic skiing

Nordic skiing at the 1980 Winter Olympics

Nordic skiing is skiing where the heel of the boot cannot be fixed to the ski, as opposed to Alpine skiing. Olympic events are cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships is a major event of these sports and happens in winter of odd-number years between Winter Olympics.

Biathlon combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, but is not regarded as a Nordic discipline.^[1]
