North Walney

For the district of Barrow-in-Furness, see Walney North.

North Walney is a National Nature Reserve on Walney Island, England. The island is an esker. The reserve has an area of 646.5 ha and protects a sand dune system which supports a large number of Natterjack Toads.

North Walney was formerly a separate Site of Special Scientific Interest, but it has been amalgamated with other SSSIs in the Duddon Estuary. The Duddon Estuary is a Special Protection Area.[1]

There is a separate nature reserve at South Walney managed by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust.
