South Walney

South Walney is a nature reserve on Walney Island, England. It is managed by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust and is the home of the Walney Bird Observatory. The reserve is notable for its gull populations, although numbers have declined considerably since the 1970s.[1] There are lesser black backed gulls and herring gulls.[2] Seals may also be seen.[3]

Protection

South Walney and Piel Channel Flats are designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest for biological and geographical interest.
