Nowshera Virkan (Urdu: نوشہره وِركاں), is a tehsil and large city west of the industrial city of Gujranwala, Punjab, Pakistan.

History

Nowshera Virkan is a hub of rice-growing villages. It is one of the four tehsils of Gujranwala District and lies between three large cities: Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Sheikhupura.Nowshera virkhan is most popular Tehsil (sub division) of Gujranwala district. This Tehsil contains mostly Jatt community specially VIRK and SRAA caste (sub caste of Jatt). This tehsil has 12 villages named virk cast e.g. Dhair virkan, gharmula virkan, matta virkan, artali virkan, baloki virkan, leel virkan, sadu virkan, duburjee virkan, mangoki virkan, udday virkan, wandala virkan, chalaki virkan and has 5 villages named by Sraa cast e.g. Jagowala sraa,phamma sraa,nither k sraa,bair ala sraa, sharan wala sraa etc.....

Education

Nowshehra Virkan's educational institutions include Government Degree College for Girls, Government Degree College for Boys, Government Commerce Institute, Dar-e-Arqam School for Girls and Boys, and The Educators School for Girls and Boys.

Transportation

Nowshehra Virkan is linked with Lahore and Kamonki via Tatlay Aali, while another highway called Gujranwala Road connects it with Gujranwala and Rawalpindi/Islamabad. Another road connects the city with Farooqabad. Nowshehra Virkan has no railway stations; the nearest railway stations are in Gujranwala and Kamonki.
