The sixth series of The Bill, a British television drama, consisted of 104 episodes, broadcast between 2 January – 27 December 1990. The series was first released on DVD as part of the Collection 5 and Collection 6 DVD boxsets in Australia, made available on 9 April – 8 October 2008, respectively. The series was later re-issued as two-half series boxsets in Australia, released on 7 March 2012. The above artwork is taken from the most recent Australian release. It features images of DC Tosh Lines and DI Frank Burnside. The original Collection box-sets contained sole images of PC Reg Hollis and DS Ted Roach. In the UK, the first nine episodes were released on DVD under the title Volume 7, on 2 September 2013.

A pub landlord is furious after WPCs Datta and Ford are left to deal with a number of drunken disturbances - and Ch. Supt. Brownlow isn't happy either.

Ch. Insp. Conway talks to Ch. Supt. Brownlow to organise a group of officers needed to escort a German police officer around London, who is looking for stolen car engines. Meanwhile, Sgt. Cryer is not happy when PC Stamp announces he is going to be on holiday when a case of his comes up at court. A man complains after being burgled three times in a week.

With higher career prospects on the cards, Insp. Frazer and PC Edwards begin to discover that there is life after Sun Hill. Meanwhile, the new Inspector, Andrew Monroe, causes a stir amongst the relief with his new "zero tolerance" policing policies - much to the dismay of seasoned coppers PC Stamp and PC Hollis.

PC Hollis is organising a blood bank at the station, and Sgt. Peters is not happy. WPC Martella is sent to assist at an armed robbery, but hits a radio black spot - and no one at the station knows her whereabouts. DC Carver and DS Roach have a problem with their car, while trailing the robbery suspect. PC Stamp begins to feel unwell after giving blood.

PCs Garfield and Datta investigate a report of a man hanging around outside a school gate. A boy later goes missing, and Insp. Monroe is tasked with starting a full scale search, but thinking that the relief has gone soft, sends DS Greig to pick up the mysterious man hanging around the school. Meanwhile, Carver is given a warning after finding the boy in a garage, on his second visit.

DI Burnside and DS Grieg attend a police service meeting at Stafford Row, only to be told that DC Carver has been arrested after failing a breath test. Realising that Carver has been stitched up by a good-for-nothing probationary PC looking to climb the ladder of promotion, Bursnide quickly gets to work trying to prove Carver's innocence.

DS Roach suspects that DC Lines has something going on the side. Suspecting that he is moonlighting as a private detective, Sgt. Penny investigates, only to discover that Lines has in fact taken in a lodger, in breach of regulations, and decides to report him. Everyone from Sgt. Cryer to PC Hollis feels that Penny has gone too far.

WPC Martella and Sgt. Cryer are on night patrol, and they know it's going to be an interesting shift. First, they stop a lady wheeling a suitcase, looking for an address. They are then asked to assist PCs Stamp and Quinnan at a house disturbance, where a man is dropping his belongings off the roof. They then attend a burglar alarm, only to find the suitcase lady being chased by youths.

A robbery on a video shop leads DI Burnside to Michael Lovett, the son of a villain that he arrested twenty years previously. Realising that he has been set up by his snout, Burnside, DS Greig and DC Carver set up a trap to capture Lovett and all of his associates. Meanwhile, PC Stamp finds himself in deep water when a woman breaks a man's arm on his instructions.

DC Dashwood is approached by a snout with information about a potential gang war on the plot. DI Burnside is off with a bad back, and DS Greig is acting D.I. Not happy with the snout's information, Greig makes Dashwood double check every last aspect. Ch. Insp. Conway, in the custody suite checking on prisoner detention times, is concerned about the prospect of a gang war.

WPC Ford and PC Melvin investigate a domestic. Insp. Monroe talks to WPC Marshall about regular updates of clear-up figures. PC Quinnan voices his opinion on battered women. Ch. Supt. Brownlow becomes determined to catch the villain when he investigates a moneylender, after Sun Hill's charity box is stolen. Melvin and Ford find a man who has been assaulted with a golf putter.

A street festival that was due to have been cancelled is revealed as going ahead, meaning that the relief lose their weekend off. PC Hollis meets with Ch. Supt. Brownlow to complain about the situation. PC Quinnan uses PC Turnham's panda car to deliver some files to another station, but causes some damage to it. Quinnan tries to cover it up when Turnham is blamed.

PC Melvin catches a suspect who has caused a disturbance after being caught fishing for something in a pond. The package is gun-shaped, but when the wrapping is removed, it turns out to be a diamond necklace. PC Turnham and WPC Datta are called to a break-in, but there are no signs of forced entry - and the only thing missing is a ring. Turnham and Datta get involved in a fight.

Sgt. Cryer and Ch. Insp. Conway are in training for the Divisional ¼ marathon. Cryer notices a man in a wheelchair being mugged by some youths, and he pulls a muscle when he gives chase. As Sgt. Penny is sick, WPC Marshall is tasked with being acting sergeant. PCs Quinnan and Stamp investigate an accident. DS Roach and DC Carver interview Asian witnesses to the attack.

PC Stamp and WPC Martella attend a break-in, and when the chief suspect's house goes up in flames, DC Lines suspects the only member of the family without a criminal record. Ch. Supt. Brownlow and DI Burnside argue over Sun Hill CID's clear-up rate, and Burnside discovers that Stafford Row have fiddled their figures. PC Melvin brings in a man who claims to be amnesiac.

DI Burnside brings in a van of party goers involved with supplying drugs, but his attentions are spurred when one of his snouts dies in hospital after a stroke. WPC Martella investigates the theft of thirty leather coats, and offers to undercover to catch those responsible. Ch. Supt. Brownlow is shocked to discover that one of his old friends is involved with a major villain.

Sgt. Peters is angered when the master key to the cells goes missing, following PCs Hollis and Turnham's arrest of a number of drunks. A detective superintendent from Northern Ireland to ask Sun Hill CID for assistance in an undercover operation that is due to last six months.

A group of Asian youths cause a diversion in the market, while another raids a till, and Sgt. Peters fails to stop them. A superintendent from the Community Liaison Office at Area visits Sun Hill. He is anxious to nip any racial problems in the bud. Meanwhile, WPC Datta arrests a man who has hit his daughter. WPC Ackland has problems getting crime victims to participate in a survey.

DS Roach struggles after no leads become visible after a bank robbery. The robbery appears to be an exact copy of an attack that occurred eight years before. The same employee was involved in both robberies, and has signed himself into a psychiatric hospital. WPC Martella goes undercover to find out what he is up to - and discovers that he appears to be a natural born victim.

Roach is reluctant however, as Roxanne was badly beaten when he failed to protect her the last time she gave evidence against Owen.

DS Greig, DC Carver and DC Lines arrest a man for burglary, and for possession of drugs. DI Burnside recruits him as a snout, and sets up a crackdown operation entitled 'Operation Middleman'. Animosity between Burnside and DI Gordon Wray from the Drugs Squad threatens the operation, but when they bust a crack house, it appears to be a stitch up for both Burnside and the suspects.
