Onward is the debut full-length album by the Christian Lopez Band, led by singer-songwriter Christian Lopez.[1][2] Released on May 19, 2015 by Blaster Records, it was well-received by critics. Rolling Stone called the album "a plucky and occasionally subdued showcase of his Appalachian roots."[3]
Production and release
In May of 2015 Christian Lopez released his first full-length album “Onward.” Like his previous EP, it was produced by Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, and Chris Stapleton).[4][5][6] The album was recorded in December of 2014.[5] Popmatters streamed the album early on May 12, 2015,[4] and the album came out on May 19, 2015. Music videos
The music video for the track "Leaving It Out" was directed by Tyler Evans and released through Blaster Records in August 2015. It aired on CMT, among other media outlets.[7] Music videos for the tracks “Will I See You Again” and “Leaving It Out” both premiered on CMT Pure Country and each remained in the channel's 12 Pack Countdown for a number of consecutive weeks. Critical reception

Rolling Stone called the album "a plucky and occasionally subdued showcase of his Appalachian roots."[3] American Songwriter gave it 3/5 stars, praising the likability and honesty of the album overall and called it an "impressive first effort."[6] Pittsburgh In Tune gave the album 4/5,[8] while the Americana Music Show wrote that Lopez "has the earnestness and wide-open view of the world that we haven't seen since the early days of Paul Simon."[9]
