PROPARCO is a Development Financial Institution partly owned by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and private shareholders from the developed countries and developing nations, according to its website. PROPARCO promotes private investment in developing countries to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). PROPARCO finances operations which are economically viable, financially profitable, environmentally sustainable and socially equitable.[1] As of December 2011, its shareholders' capital exceeded €420 million (US$526 million).[2]
