Park Hyo-shin (Hangul: 박효신, Hanja: 朴孝信, born 1 December 1981) is a South Korean singer.

Biography

Young Park, His Debut

Park Hyo Shin was born at December 1, 1981 in Chungcheongnam-Do Yesan.[1]

When Park was young, he sang trot, a Korean traditional genre, at his family's restaurant. The guests liked Park singing, so the guests had visited Park's family restaurant often. However even he was young, there was a rumor that he sang very good and many people were curious and visited the restaurant.

When Park attended to High School, he started to go to the path of singer by his friend's suggestion. As he started to become a singer, he started to participate in many competitive festivals and won many trophies.

Park became a management company's trainee when he entered High School. However due to problems that happened in his management company, he had to move to another company. Park thought that in a new company wouldn't have any problems, but his new management company had forced Park to charge a lot of money because he had ignored the sponsor. Due to these problems, Park started to fold his dream of becoming a singer. However, his friend had took Park to a composer Hwang Yoon Min and started to sing again below Hwang's supervision.

Park had practiced to become a singer for almost an year and met his debut date. In November 4, 1999 he appeared in a radio station. Then in November 30, 1999 he released his first album "Things I Cannot Do For You", with a title song "Fool".

Park's Album and OST

Park got famous by Korean citizens by attending to a KBS TV show called "Lee Sora's Propose". After Park attended to this program, his awareness got significantly up and lead to 440,000 of his debut album was sold and the album was recorded 15th in 2000 Music Recording Sales. Also, he was rewarded for the 15th Golden Disk Awards, Rookie of the Year award.[3]

The album “Second Story" was released in February 2001, and the title song “Longing” got a big hit. This album’s producer were Korean Famous producers such as Yoon Sang, Kim Dong Ryul, Jo Kyu Man and Yoo Hee Yeol which meant Park’s album got one level more sophisticated. The fans say that this album was the most highest album to keep, but in Park’s interview he said this album was not fore him, but the album was for the producers.

The next album “Time Honored Voice” was released in September 2002 and 470,000 copies of his album was sold. Park's main title song was also a hit which made 3 hits songs in a row and made a way for one of the greatest artist in Korea. By this affect, the title song “A Good Man” was ranked 1st for 2 weeks in a row in SBS Inkigayo, won Main Prize in the 17th Golden Disk and Seoul Music Award which made Park more famous.

[4] Maybe the music that got Park Hyo Shin the most famous will be a song called "Snow Flower". This song was not a song from an album, but it was a remake OST song for KBS Drama "I'm Sorry, I love You" that was broadcast in 2004. The original song was sang by Mika Nakashima, however people think, the song that Park Hyo Shin has better delivery.[5] This song is well known until today, and the musicians prior this music very high.

Park Hyo Shin released his 5th album in 2006. It took 3 years to release a new full studio album. The title song for this album was "Memories are getting similar to Love" and was ranked top 3 in the music chart that time.

Park didn't only participate in his album, but he participated in the OST a lot. He participated in a Korean TV program called Iljimae, by singing the song "Hwashin," which means "Flower Letter" in English.[6] In 2008, he also participated in Hwang Project as the lead vocal by releasing an album "The Castle of Zolter" which was a totally different music from the music that he sang before.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of his debut, Park held a series of concerts, titled Park Hyo Shin's Gift from 17 to 19 October 2009 at the Olympic Fencing Gymnasium.[7] On May 23, 2009. Park has participated on Green Concert, and is currently working on his 6th studio album. On September 15, 2009. Park released his 6th album, Gift-Part1. The Song "After Love" made it to the top 1 in music charts.[8]

In 2014, Park had released a mega hit song. The song's title is "Wild Flower". This song was released in 2014, but in March, 2016 it is still placed 70th.[9] This song describes about a couple that broke and wanting to erase memories. In 2014, Park released a digital single called "Shine Your Light". This song was also a good song, but the citizens thought that "Wild Flower" was more well made song, so this song didn't became so popular like others.

Park's Way of Singing, Personality

Park's way of singing had changed over time. As new albums were released, his singing method had changed and changed. During his first to fourth album, his singing method was called "Somole Method".[10] Somole Method is a Korean R&B singing method which is unique than other method.[11] Some fans thought and spoke that Park's Somole Method was awkward to listen during his first to fourth album. By the fans' opinion, Park worked hard to change the method more soft and make the deliver better than before.

When Park released his 5th album, the singing method had fully changed. Park's voice got significantly soft, was easy to listen and the delivery of musics were better than the Somole Method. People thought that Park's singing method had changed similarly to Eric Bennett, and in Interview, Park had clarified that Eric Bennett was a singer that he liked and admired, and followed his singing method.[12]

In the song "Shine Your Light", Park started to sing a song more beautifully by making his voice more sweet and mellow. This song reminded the Korean listeners that Park Hyo Shin is a person who changes for his fans concerns and listen to his fans.

People admire Park Hyo Shin as the one of the best Korean singer because he changed his singing voice because of his fans. Korean people call the top 3 singer in Korea and they are Kim, Na, Park and Lee. Kim stands for Kim Bum Soo, Na stands for Na Ul, Park stands for Park Hyo Shin and Lee stands for Lee Soo.[13]

Park has a shy personality and his personality makes him a rare person to see in a TV show or radio station. He likes to stay in home and doesn't like to go outside.[14]
