Penny De Los Santos

Penny De Los Santos, a documentary and culinary photographer, is a senior contributor to Saveur Magazine and has co-authored or contributed to more than a dozen food and culture books.[1]

Biography & Career

Penny De Los Santos was born in Germany to a military family. She eventually moved to Texas where she spent the rest of her adolescence.[1] She graduated Texas A&M University with a major in Journalism.[2] In 1996, she earned a master's degree in Communications at Ohio University.[3] She was a staff photographer at the San Jose Mercury News.

Since 2006, De Los Santos has been a senior contributing photographer for Saveur Magazine traveling to more than 30 countries on Saveur assignments. In February 2009, De Los Santos launched a food blog, where she documents the food and culture in her travel destinations as well as her personal life. She regularly contributes to National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, Time, Latina, and Texas Monthly.[4]

De Los Santos is openly gay[5] and is based in New York City.[6]

Awards

In 1998, she received the College Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA).[7]

The Parson’s School of Design Marty Fortier Fellowship and the California New Media Award.[8]
