The Pikes Peak Derby Dames are Colorado Springs' first and only women's flat track roller derby league. PPDD is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA),[1] the international governing body of women's flat track roller derby.
Organization
The Pikes Peak Derby Dames was founded in the summer of 2005, when one woman from Colorado Springs decided start a roller derby league in her home town. Founded by Slugs-N-Kisses, the league has been growing one woman at a time ever since. PPDD is a diverse group of female athletes committed to the athletic development and empowerment of women in the Pikes Peak region. The league is governed by the philosophy of "by the skaters, for the skaters," and is a nonprofit organization.
Members
Members of the organization come from many walks of life, including students, insurance agents, tattoo artists, massage therapists and hair dressers.
Teams
PPDD consists of three "home" teams and two travel teams.
The home teams are the Danger Dolls, the Candy Snipers, and the new Killer Queens (revealed in 2014) and primarily only play each other. Every member of PPDD is placed on a home team after being with the league for a certain amount of time.
PPDD also has two travel teams, the All Stars and the Slamazons, who play teams from other leagues around the country. The All Stars are nationally ranked in the WFTDA and generally only play WFTDA-sanctioned bouts. The Slamazons are the "B" team, and play other B teams in bouts that are unsanctioned and don't count toward national ranking.
Charity work
The Pikes Peak Derby Dames are active in the community, donating time, money, and even bout tickets to charities and nonprofit organizations in the Pikes Peak region.[2]
