Plaridel is a third class municipality in the province of Misamis Occidental, Philippines. According to 2010 census, it has a population of 35,251 people.[3]
Plaridel became a municipality in 1907. Its original name was Langaran, after the river which drains along its shorelines. The town is accessible from Manila by air via the Dipolog Airport or Ozamiz Airport which is 68 kilometres (42 mi) away. Plaridel also has a harbor in Looc that is very well sheltered from strong winds. A passenger boat (Lite Shipping) travels to Cebu City everyday, with stops in Siquijor and Tagbilaran, Bohol. Daily boat service to Cebu is also available in the port of Ozamiz City about 67 kilometres (42 mi) to the south.
Coconut, banana and rice are the town's main crops. Municipal fisheries produces more than enough fish for its needs.
The current Municipal Mayor of the town is Engr. Diego Cacho Ty, a businessman, who won the 2013 election with a very small margin against his opponent Villanueva.
On August 19, 2016, a concerned citizen from Southern Looc reported to ABS-CBN (Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo) that the incumbent Mayor(Engr. Diego Cacho Ty) is using an Identification Card System to recognize his supporters. The said ID system is suspected to be the basis of vote buying in the municipality which was condemned by the TV Patrol Anchor - Ted Failon.
There is an ongoing project of the town which has been recently started, the construction of Plaridel Community Hospital in Barangay Panalsalan. The Peter Paul Philippines Coconut Corporation has also started to build their coconut processing plant at the town.
