Poronaysky District (Russian: Порона́йский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion) of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia; one of the seventeen in the oblast.[1] As a municipal division, it is incorporated as Poronaysky Urban Okrug.[3] It is located in the eastern central part of the Island of Sakhalin. The area of the district is 7,280.2 square kilometers (2,810.9 sq mi). Its administrative center is the town of Poronaysk.[1] Population (excluding the administrative center): 7,811(2010 Census);[4] 10,857(2002 Census);[8] 17,977(1989 Census).[9]
