Private Parts and Pieces II: Back to the Pavilion is the second "generic" album by Anthony Phillips. The album is composed of previously recorded pieces that had been parts of or intended for other projects. The album was released at a time when Phillips was between his Arista Records and RCA recording contracts, but still had a distribution deal with U.S. label Passport Records.

Several tracks were instrumental links recorded for Wise After the Event (1978), when that release was still conceived as an album coupled with an EP. The "Scottish Suite" brings together work originally commissioned as part of an aborted project to set Macbeth to music. These tracks feature musical contributions from Mike Rutherford and former King Crimson and Greenslade drummer Andy McCulloch.

The 1990 CD reissue included a new recording of a song that dates from Phillips' time in Genesis called “Lucy: An Illusion”.

In 2010, as part of Voiceprint's re-issue campaign of Phillips' back catalogue, the album was re-issued as a double CD where the first CD was the first in the PP&P series: Private Parts and Pieces. This release is newly re-mastered by Simon Heyworth, retains the bonus track from the previous CD release, and adds new sleeve-notes detailing the recording of the individual tracks.

On September 11, 2015, Esoteric Recordings (a Cherry Red Records label) released a 5-disc box set containing the first four volumes in the Private Parts and Pieces series and a 5th disc of previously unreleased material.
