Qayyumabad
Qayyumabad (Urdu: قیوم آباد ) is a suburb of Korangi Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.[1]
Demographics
There are several ethnic groups in Qayyumabad, including Hazarewal(Hazara Division)Muhajirs, Punjabis, Sindhis, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Pakhtuns, Balochis, The population of Korangi Town is estimated to be nearly one million.
The people of Qayyumabad were at first mostly Hazarewal, Pashtuns and Christians. Now the population has increased and a more diverse population resides in the area. Most of the people are Sunies and Deobandies. There are four blocks by name A area, B area, C area and D area. At least two mosques are situated in each area. The name of these mosque are Muhammadi Masjid B area Madina Masjid A area, Ghosia Masjid, Taiba Masjid, Hanfia Masjid, Usmania masjid and Noor Masjid in D area. The schools of Qayyumabad Korangi Road are Oxford Grammar School, Sarwar Jahan Public School, Varraich Angels Secondary School, Al Abbas Secondary School, Little Prince School and Pakistan Foundation. Most of the population is educated up to SSC level (matric) but the area has also provided Doctors, Engineers, Politicians, Labours and Chartered Accountants as well. Most Qayyumabadi people prefer working in Govt. and Semi Govt institutions like Army, Police and KESC.
History
Qayyumabad was previously known as Bostanabad. Most of the residents of this suburb were moved here from a place called Azad Colony in 1965. Azad Colony is located near Jinnah Hospital, and the government moved the residents because of a planned expansion of the heart surgical ward. In the end the decision was taken to not expand the hospital in that direction because of the railway tracks, so Azad Colony still exists....... Four sector A,B,C,D,.
