Rabkavi Banhatti is a town situated at the bank river Krishna and a city municipal council in Bagalkot district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It forms twin town along with Rabakavi Rampur & Hosur. It is the hub of the textile business for the surrounding districts n is famous for surat zari sarees which are manufactured here. The people in the town are famous for their kind hearts,Love towards Education, caring and Hard Working nature.

Rabkavi Banhatti is a place about 19 km to the west of JamkhandiThis town area comprises four places: Rabkavi, Banhatti, Hosur and Rampur. In 1952 the municipalities of Rabkavi and Banhatti were merged into one municipality. The place is very famous for its power loomed and hand loomed sarees, for which there is a very good market. Rabkavi-Banhatti has more than 22000 power looms which is the highest in Karnataka.

The famous temples of the city are Shri Mahadev temple, GLBC colony, Danamma Devi Temple (Rabkavi) and Shri Kadasiddeshwara temple (Banhatti). A fair is conducted every August and September.

The Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Town Rabkavi in 1944 and S. S. Basavanala was the President of the Sammelana which was organized by Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Karnataka

Demographics

Males constituted 51% of the population and females 49%. Rabkavi Banhatti had an average literacy rate of 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy was 67%, and female literacy was 49%. In Rabkavi Banhatti, 13% of the population was under 6 years of age. To reach this place either you can travel by Train+Bus or a Bus. The best travel would be by Bus and it takes around 13 hours from Bangalore and train travel would be around 13 to 15 hours SRS, VRL , Telsang etc operate Bus journeys to this place.

Banahatti has a spinning mill, Banahatti Co-operative Spinning Mill Ltd., Banahatti, established in 1983-84 and operating on its own funds. It runs all year. The city has over 20000 power looms, and weaving is the main means of support for most of the families. Recently the weaving business has grown larger than ever in history; saris produced are sent to markets like Bangalore, Dharwad, Mangalooru, and also sent to Maharashtra state, Andhra , Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Goa , Delhi n other different parts of the country

Culture

The people and culture also adds its own value to the leaders who studied in Banahatti. Welknown freedom fighter and physician Dr G D Badchikar represented Karnataka State in All India Medical Conference at New Delhi in the year 1968.They attended National conference on "pollution control and plantation of trees" held in Secundarabad organised by Government of Andhra Pradesh in 1998. Shankar Bidari, Director General of Police , Karnataka State and Police Commissioner - Bangalore. Topper in XLRI- Girish Hukkeri - are also from the same school.

Sri Kadasidhheshwar Temple is the prime temple of the town and considered as "Town God", yearly once fair festival will be conducted in September or October. The other temples are namely Sri Mallikarjun Temple, Hanuman Temple, Veerbhadreshwar Temple, Yallamma Temple, Sri Basaveshwar Temple, Kali Temple, Lakshmi Temple and many more.

Banahatti has four theaters namely Vaibhav, Shringar, Arun and Mallikarjun theatres. Government Rabkavi-Banahatti is one of 57 Karnataka cities in the Nirmala Nagara - Municipal eGovernance project. On August 15, 2005, each of the cities got a comprehensive website as well as the Public Grievance & Redressal module. Other important modules launched are Property Tax, Financial Accounting GIS Mapping, Birth & Death Certification, and Ward Works. Nirmala Nagara project is a partnership between the Urban Development Dept, eGovernments Foundation & Survey of India. These computer-based systems coupled with government process re-engineering and GIS digital mapping will provide transparency and accountability and smoother delivery of services to citizens of Karnataka.

Education

The twin town has many primary schools, highschools and four pre-university colleges, three private and another government. MV Pattan PU College Rabkavi, Poornaprajnya Composite Science PU college, Janata Sikshana Sangha has one of them which is named a S.R.A. Composite Pre-University College and also has a primary school, SRA High School, and Degree College Tammanappa Chikkodi Arts & Commerce. Now the SRA college provides even B.B.A and B.C.A. The other one is Govt. PU college.

S R A School is known to be one of the best schools which had been named by the name of king of Jamakhandi "Shri Ramachandra Appasaheb (S.R.A)". Many a prominent Business Leaders, Govt Officials, few of the leaders in IT Industry have studied in this school. Also twin cities has an Govt. Polytechnic college, situated in Rabakavi town. This city has became the source to education for the students from near by places Terdal, Harugeri, Mahalingpur, Raibag, Athani etc

But still students from this place are forced to leave their places to complete their higher education due to the lack of the Several degrees and courses.
