Bree Olson (born October 7, 1986), born as Rachel Marie Oberlin[1][2][3] is a former American pornographic actress and Penthouse Pet. She performed in over 280 adult films from 2006 to 2011 before changing to mainstream acting.[3][5] Since leaving the industry, she has become vocally critical of the social stigma attached to being a former porn actress and of the porn industry.[6]
Personal life
Olson was born in Houston, Texas. Olson's maternal grandparents were Ukrainians who emigrated to Texas, then Fort Wayne, Indiana, when she was two years old.[7] She has stated that her biggest hero is her grandmother, who was a concentration camp survivor.[8]
Her first summer job was working as a corn detasseler; she later worked as a busgirl at a local restaurant. After graduating from high school, she applied to Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne intending to become a doctor, but she dropped out of the university.[7]
On March 1, 2011, Olson was reported to be living with actor Charlie Sheen.[1] The relationship ended in April 2011.
On June 17, 2015, Olson posted an open letter on Twitter advising women to avoid the adult film industry.[9] On 24 March 2016, writing as a guest columnist in Daily Dot, she related her post-porn social life, stating, "porn didn't hurt me. The way society treats me for having done it does".[10] In the same article, she claimed she is "broke",[10] although independent sources had claimed in 2015 she was "worth US$ 5 million.[11][12] This article was later followed by her 25 March appearance in the YouTube documentary series "Real Women, Real Stories", in which she repeated these claims, adding that she believes society in general perceives ex-porn stars in a highly negative manner, specifically as morally akin to pedophiles. She is also critical of the pornography industry, noting "We are the only entertainment industry that doesn't offer talent royalties after they are gone," but not of the profession itself.[6][10][13]
She describes herself as bisexual.[14][15][16]
Career
Olson entered the adult industry in November 2006,[17] and initially worked for a variety of companies including Digital Playground, Elegant Angel and Red Light District Video.[18] She was a contract performer with Adam & Eve from 2007 to 2010.[17][19]
Olson's stage name came from the first name of a high school friend combined with a variation on the last name of the Olsen twins.[7] Olson initially intended to continue attending college along with performing, but when her grades slipped she dropped out.[7] According to Olson she had wanted to be a porn star since she was young, and only waited until she was nineteen and a half because she had been in a four-year relationship until then.[8]
Olson has performed in over 280 adult movies.[3] She was named Penthouse Pet of the Month for March 2008,[20][21] appeared on the cover of Hustler,[22] was on the cover of the May 2011 issue of Penthouse, and on the cover of the August 2011 Playboy magazine. In 2010, she was named by Maxim as one of the 12 top female stars in porn.[23]
In October 2011, Olson announced that she had retired from shooting pornography, and that "she hasn't done an adult film in over a year."[5]
Mainstream TV & cinema
In 2007, Olson appeared in an episode of the E! reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, in which she is hired as a nanny but ostensibly gets fired on her first day at workafter then-matriarch Kris Jenner objects to her state of dress and behavior as "inappropriate."[24] In reality, the show's producers attempted to "milk a 'slutty babysitter' stereotype for laughs."[25] She has also made appearances on Opie and Anthony,[26] The Howard Stern Show,[27] Insomniac with Dave Attell,[28] the Spike Guys' Choice Awards, The Glass House,[29] Tosh.0,[28] James Gunn's PG Porn, the movie Purgatory Comics, and the music video for Flo Rida's "Zoosk Girl".[30]
In 2013, Olson was confirmed as a member of the cast of the horror film The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence)[31] and Adam Rifkin's Director's Cut.[32] In 2015, she played Divatox in the short, web film Power/Rangers.
