Riba-roja d'Ebre is a municipality in the comarca of the Ribera d'Ebre in southern Catalonia, Spain. It is the site of a large hydroelectric power station, on the Ebro river. The whole area is mountainous.

Fishing

Once a year there was a major international fishing championship at Riba-roja however the area was overfished and this no longer happens. Fishing is still practised both in the reservoir and down the river. The river mouths of the Cinca, Segre and Matarraña rivers are surrounded by a forest and beautiful scenery. In the middle of the reservoir is the bell tower of the town of Fayón, which became submerged with the damming of the river. Riba Roja is near to Ascó, and Vinebre both of which are also becoming extremely well renowned for excellent fishing amongst the locals who often try to avoid the heavily fished areas.

The Race

The race is run every 24 August around local landmarks. The prizes are placed in a cage at the top of a pole.
