Rico Antonio Henry (born 8 July 1997) is an English professional footballer who plays as a left–back for League One side Walsall.

Club career

Henry joined Walsall aged 11 and made his first senior appearance for the club shortly after his 16th birthday in July 2013 in a pre season friendly against Leeds United.[3]

Henry was given his first professional contract by the Saddlers on 30 July 2014 shortly after his 17th Birthday when impressing at youth level.[4] He made his debut for the club on 9 December 2014 in the Football League Trophy area semi-finals as Walsall beat Tranmere on penalties after a 2–2 draw.[5] Henry then made his first league appearance on 13 December 2014 against Barnsley in a 3–1 victory.[6]

Henry started the 2015–16 season as a regular in the Walsall starting XI and won the Football League Young Player of the Month Award for September after an impressive string of performances in a table topping side.[7]

Henry scored his first senior goal for the club on 25 August 2015 in a 2–1 victory over table topping Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion.[8] His first league goal came five weeks later in a 1–0 away victory at Scunthorpe United.[9]

On 2 October 2015, Henry signed a new three year contract with Walsall. And not very long after, his impressive performances gathered large rumors around him, with suggestions Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea were among many teams holding interest in the left back/ left mid dubbed by his former manager, Dean Smith, as the young Ashley Cole. [10]

International career

On 10 November 2015, Henry received his first call up to the England U19 squad for games against the Netherlands and Japan.[11]
