Yanic-Sonny Wildschut (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈjaːnɪk ˈʋɪltsxɵt]; born 1 November 1991) is a Dutch footballer who plays as a winger for English club Wigan Athletic of League One.

Club career

Zwolle

Wildschut, a product of the famous Ajax academy, made his debut for FC Zwolle in a second division league match against MVV. The match ended in a goalless draw.[2]

VVV-Venlo

After one season, he signed a three-year deal with VVV-Venlo on 29 June 2011.[3] Wildschut wanted to leave VVV-Venlo after the relegation of the club.

Heerenveen

On 24 June 2013, he signed a three-year deal with SC Heerenveen.[4]

Den Haag (loan)

On 31 January 2014, Wildschut was sent on loan to ADO Den Haag until the end of the season.[5]

Middlesbrough

On 1 September 2014, Wildschut joined English side Middlesbrough of the Championship on a two-year contract with the option of a further year.[6] He scored his first goal for Middlesbrough in a 3−0 win against Rotherham United on 1 November 2014,[7] and then three days later scored his second goal in a 4−0 win over Norwich City.[8]

Wigan Athletic

On 2 October 2015, Wildschut was sent on loan to Wigan Athletic for three-months.[9] His first goal for Wigan was the winner as they beat Crewe Alexandra 3–2 in the Football League Trophy on 6 October 2015.[10] Wildschut scored his first league goal for the club on 20 October 2015 in a 3−2 win against Peterborough United.[11] On 9 January 2016, he signed for Wigan on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell.[12]
