Rionegro Ãguilas[1][2] is a professional Colombian football team based in Rionegro that currently plays in the CategorÃa Primera A. They play their home games at Alberto Grisales stadium. The club also has a futsal team.
History
Since its foundation in 1991 the team has had several names. In 2005 the club was sold to form a new club: Florida Soccer. In 2008 the team was refounded after buying the team Bajo Cauca F.C. and relocating the team to ItagüÃ.[3]
The team has had very good results in the CategorÃa Primera B. In 2010 they became champion and advanced to the CategorÃa Primera A. The team had his debut in the CategorÃa Primera A in 2011 as Itagüà Ditaires, being the first time in the CategorÃa Primera A that four teams from the same department compete for the grand prize.
The team was expelled from Itagüà in May 2014, following a dispute between the club's chairman and the city's mayor regarding the financial support received by the club from ItagüÃ's government. The decision to expel the club from the city was made by the mayor after being publicly criticized by the club's chairman for the scarce support provided to the club. This incident meant the team would change its name to Ãguilas Pereira, moving to the city of Pereira and playing its home matches at Hernán RamÃrez Villegas stadium, change approved by DIMAYOR's Assembly in an extraordinary meeting on July 14, 2014.[4][5] In March 2015, the club moved to Rionegro, changing its name to Ãguilas Doradas.,[6] and on January 5, 2016 the club announced it would be changing its name to Rionegro Ãguilas and its kit colour would be switched from its traditional golden to red.[7]
