Major automobile roads in Belarus
Automobile roads in Belarus are classified into several categories.
State-owned common access roads
The state-owned roads of common access are managed by the Belavtodor [1] department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus. They are classified into republican roads and local roads. Automobile roads may also be owned by persons, businesses, state enterprises, and military.
Motorway network
Belarus has an extensive system of 4-laned dual carriageways and expressways, currently in expansion. Currently they are:
- M1 - Linking Brest with Minsk and further to the border with Russia into Moscow, although 4-laned expressway from Kobryn (M10) until Orsha (0,5 km west of intersection with P 87 road). All road length: 611 km. Expressway length: 505 km.
- M2 - Linking Minsk with the Minsk International Airport. Length: 34 km. 4-lane carriageway for the whole length.
- M3 - Linking Minsk with Vitebsk, although 4-laned dual carriageway only extends from Minsk until Logoysk. 4-laned dual carriageway length: 33 km.
- M4 - Linking Minsk with Mogilev. Passes also through Chervyen' and Berezino. Length: 182 km.
- M5 - Linking Minsk with Gomel', although 4-laned dual carriageway only extends from Minsk until Babruysk and from Žlobin until Gomel. 4-laned dual carriageway length: 193 km.
- M6 - Linking Minsk with Hrodno, although 4-laned dual carriageway only extends from Minsk until M7 intersection near Volozhin and from Shchuchin until Hrodno. 4-laned dual carriageway length: 115 km.
- M9 - Ring road around Minsk. Length: 56 km.
- M10 - Linking Gomel' with Kobryn, although 4-laned dual carriageway only extends from Gomyel' until Rechitsa. 4-laned dual carriageway length: 51 km.
- P1 - Linking Minsk with Dzyarzhynsk. Length: 40 km.
- P23 - Linking Minsk with Mikashevichi, although 4-laned dual carriageway only extends from Minsk until Buda Hreskaya. 4-laned dual carriageway length: 66 km.
- P28 - Linking Minsk with Narach, although 4-laned dual carriageway only extends from Minsk until Zaslawye. 4-laned dual carriageway length: 25 km.
