Ruprekha Banerjee
Ruprekha Banerjee (Bengali: রূপরেখা ব্যানার্জী) (born 1984 in Kolkata) was one of the three finalists of Fame Gurukul, one of the most watched television shows in India, along with Rex D'Souza and Qazi Touqeer. On 20 October 2005, she managed to grab the top prize along with Qazi Touqeer.[1]
All through the four months spent in Gurukul, Ruprekha was always on the sidelines but managed to perform well. Some people have criticized the decision of her being chosen the winner on the account of the fact that she was not always a good on-stage performer, even though her singing was very good. Her Debut Album Yeh Pal with Qazi Touqeer went Double Platinum in India and sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Currently she is participating in a new reality show aired by Star Plus named Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar and "Royal Bengal Super Star" by Star Jalsa. "BONDHU HOBE..." 2011 puja album by Sagarika became a super hit.

Early Life--Career Stats
Ruprekha Banerjee was born on 28 July 1984 in Bongaon, Dist: North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India, to Bengali parents, Shri. Pradip Kr. Banerjee and Smt. Kabita Banerjee. She spent the first three months of her life in her birthplace in West Bengal, then she moved to a place called Agarpara, Kolkata, where she lived with her busunessman father. She spent her first eighteen teen years of formative part of her life there and completed her schooling up to tenth standard, in Ramakrishna Mission, Barrackpore, the 12th Standard from Ariyadaha Sarbamangala Vidyapith, then Vidyasagar College and finally at the University of Calcutta with honours in zoology.[2]
Life at Agarpara was simple. There used to be cultural programs and social gatherings very often. Her grandfather is a singer and both of her parents are very much culturally inclined and they all are very much involved with all such activities. During those activities, as a small child, she picked up her first lesson of music. She used to hum the same songs with her immature words, whatever her grandfather sang during rehearsals. It was during those days when her potential for singing was discovered by her grandfather.[2]
At the age of six, she started learning music, mainly Rabindra Sangeet, from her first Guru – her grandfather. She gave her first stage performance at their club’s annual function. At the age of seven, she started getting formal training in Hindustani Classical Music. She learnt Classical Hindustani Music from Sangeeta Das of Agarpara, Neela Gowsami up to age of 10 and Anju Chakraborty up to age of 16. She learned Light Classical Hindustan Music from Pandit Arun Bhaduri and thereafter, she got her initial exposure to Bengali film background songs and Bengali serial title songs. She received training in playback singing from Legendary Bharat Ratna Pandit Late Bhimsen Joshi’s student Maloy Banerjee at a later stage at Mumbai after shifting there. She continued her training in Classical Hindustani Music with Late Mira Bandhopadhya’s student Kanika Mitra.[2]
In 2005, she moved to Mumbai with her family after being crowned the winner of Fame Gurukul. She has won and has been nominated for a number of awards. She won the “Fame Gurukul” Award for Most Promising reality show for Mast, the Award and the “Sera Bengali-2006” Award. She won “Sananda Adittiya” Award, Best Rising Singer Award 2012--Kalakar Awards, Best Album 2012, "Bharat Nirman Award"-2013 for Best Raising Singer-Female and was nominated for “Bondhu Hobe”.[2]
In 2005, she was the winner of Fame Gurukul, the All India Music Competition, Mumbai, organized by Sony TV. Eminent judges Javed Akhtar, KK (singer), and Shankar Mahadevan evaluated her at various stages. Jury member Javed Akhtar said that she spread beauty of her nature in her singing.[3]
In 2006, she was selected for special episode of Jo Jeeta Wohi Super Star being judged by Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravijani and Farah Khan. In 2007, she started recording in regional languages, Bhojpuri, Bengali, etc.). After Fame Gurukul, she has been continuously working and recording songs with many music directors. She has recorded film songs not only in Bengali but also in Hindi, Bhojpuri, Gujrati, etc.[3]
She worked with music directors including, Bickram Ghosh, Ashok Bhadra, Shankar Mahadevan, Indrajit Dey, Nabin Chottopadhya, Raju Mukherjee, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Arup Om, Joy Sarkar, Rupankar Bagchi, Goutam Ghosal, Indradeep Dasgupta, Subhadeep Chatterjee and Purbayan Chatterjee.[3]
She has launched lots of Bengali and Hindi albums like, Jori No-1 (Sony BMJ)- 2005, Asma Ke Paar (Sony BMJ) -2005, Oi Dakche Boi (Cosmik)- 2008 with Bickram Ghosh-Book Fair Theme song, Electronic A Krishna (Cosmik)-2009 with Indradeep Dey, Masti Cocktail (Purple)-2010 with Subhadeep, Tagore Lounge Rabindra Sangeet “Sedin Dujane…”- (Veecon)- Bickram Ghosh-2011, an album with Purbayan Chattopadhya (yet to be released), album with Bickram Ghosh(yet to be released), Puja album “Bondhu Hobe…”(Sagarika)-2011, Bengali Album "Chinite Paro Kina-2013" with Rupankar Bagchi and Rabindra Sangeet album “Niruddesh Yatra” (Sagarika)- 2012.[3]
She was adjudged "a child contestant with exceptional ability" in the Musical Talent Show "Khoj-2”- organized by Lions Club.[3]
Ruprekha Banerjee wishes to take her musical talent much beyond the film music and expand her horizon in other genre of music particularly in Hindustani Classical Music.[3]
