U.P. Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research(Hindi: उत्तर प्रदेश ग्रामीण आयुर्विज्ञान एवं अनुसंधान संस्थान), is a state run Medical College located in Saifai village, District Etawah, Uttar Pradesh. Established by UPRIMS&R, Saifai, Act 2005 notified on 15 Dec 2005. The college is affiliated to Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (formerly Kanpur University). A Bill named "Uttar Pradesh Medical Sciences University, Saifai, Etawah Bill-2015" is passed in 2015 and it become a university, named Uttar Pradesh Medical Sciences University.[1]

History

It was started as a Satellite Centre of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences functioning at Saifai village, Etawah. In 2005 Institute of Medical Sciences and Research was established by UPRIMS&R, Saifai, Act 2005, notified on 15 Dec 2005 and Institute will be known as the 'Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Saifai'.

Uttar Pradesh Medical Sciences University

In early 2015, Government of Uttar Pradesh started the process of establishing a medical science university in Saifai, Etawah. The state assembly passed a bill named "Uttar Pradesh Medical Sciences University, Saifai, Etawah Bill-2015"; it was stated that the proposed university will be known as U.P. Medical Sciences University.[2] The Bill said that after establishment of the university, the existing U.P. Rural Institute of Medical Sciences and Research and the dental, paramedical, nursing and pharmacy colleges under it, will come under the proposed new university. At 2 May 2016 the Bill was approved Governor of Uttar Pradesh(Ram Naik) and it become a university.[1]

About Saifai

Saifai is a village in the Etawah District of Uttar Pradesh. It is situated between Mainpuri and Etawah. Distance between it and Mainpuri is 33 km, and distance between it and Etawah is 20 km.

Saifai is the birth place of Mulayam Singh Yadav founder president of Samajwadi Party, former Minister of Defence (India) & former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
