São Lourenço dos Órgãos is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the central part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the town João Teves. Its population was 7,350 at the 2010 census.[1] Its current president is Victor Baessa.

The municipality are bordered with São Miguel to the east, São Domingos to the south, Ribeira Grande de Santiago to the southwest and São Salvador do Mundo and Santa Catarina to the northwest.

Its geography includes parts of Serra da Malagueta, the island's mountain summit.

History

It was created in 2005, when a parish of the older Municipality of Santa Cruz was separated to become the Municipality of São Lourenço dos Órgãos.

Points of interests

Politics

Since its first elections in 2008, the PAICV is the ruling party of the municipality, the percentage was overwhelming with 60.4%, more than double than MpD with 25.6%, it is clightly less with the same in 2012 but less than double over, the MpD had 36.6%. Of the 13 seats, 8 were taken by PAICV in the assembly, at the chamber level, all five seats were taken by the PAICV.
