SEGi College Penang is a private college for higher education located in Georgetown, Penang.It serves as SEGi University's education hub for students in the northern region of Malaysia. The campus is located in Grenhall, Georgetown, Penang.[1][2] It is also locally known as Segi Penang.The unique coastal location of the campus provides you with an ideal learning lifestyle with a breezy atmosphere, fresh air and affordable living costs.SEGi College Penang Offers industry-driven diploma and twinning-degree programmes in various disciplines, they are posed to capture both the markets in Northern and East Malaysia, as well as take in students from abroad.Its courses covers business,accounting, health science, computing, and engineering. The college also offers programmes affiliated with University of Sunderland, University of Greenwich and Upper Iowa University.SEGi Penang is rated as 5-tier college by the Ministry of Education (MOE).[3][4]

History

The college was started in 1989 as Systematic Technology College to meet education needs in the city. At first, the college offer mainly technical based education to charter the rapid growth of industry in the state of Penang. Later the institute submerged with SEGi University and officially known as SEGi College Penang.

Location

The college is located at north of Georgetown,Greenhall. The college located at walking distance from City Hall, Little India, and Fort Cornwallis. It was just 9.5 km away from Penang Jetty and 19.9 km from Penang International Airport.[5] Other nearby colleges and institutes are Sentral College Penang and University Sains Malaysia.

SEGi College Penang is the one of the Malaysian tertiary education centre to use term school (in Malay; Pusat Pengajian) instead of the term faculty that is used in other Malaysian universities. There are seven schools and two centres under SEGi College Penang.

Degree

Majority of degree peogrammes available at SEGi College Penang are twinning degree with overseas University mainly from United Kingdom.The college also offers programmes affiliated with University of Sunderland, University of Greenwich and Upper Iowa University.[6] Majority of the degree on degrees by Coursework. The School of Business and Accounting (SOBA) offers degree in BA (Hons) Business & Human Resource Management,BA (Hons) Business & Marketing Management, BA (Hons) Business & Management (3+0) and BA (Hons) Accounting & Finance (3+0). School of Engineering offers BEng (Hons) Electronic & Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical Engineering (3+0).Meanwhile, BSc (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management were offered by the School of Hospitality and Tourism. American Degree program offer Bsc in Communication Arts (Promotion Minor) and Bsc in Communication Arts (Psychology Minor)

Postgraduate Studies

The only postgraduate program offered by the college is Master of Business Administration.It was a twinning degree with University of Sunderland.

The Student council were established in year 2008 an to mediate the gap between management and students of the college.

The hostels are named based on Islands found around Malaysia and known as Residence Hall.[9] Hostels under the property of SEGi College Penangs are as follows:

Student activities

SEGi Penang Prom Nite is the biggest annual activity done in SEGi College Penang.[10] The Prom Night was organised by Student Representative Council (SRC) of SEGi College Penang. The event were organised annually since 2001. The participant were kept entertained throughout the night with dances, songs and lucky draws. The highlight of the event was the crowning of the title of Prom King and Prom Queen.

Festival of Light is annual Indian cultural festival of SEGi College Penang. The festival done in conjunctive of Deepavali celebration. Festival of Lights includes events like dramatics, music performances, dances, quizzes,and fashion show. The student will attend this event wearing Indian traditional costumes and Banana leaf rice were served to all the participant.
