Kota Kinabalu Islamic High School (Malay: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Kota Kinabalu) (SMKAKK) is an Islamic schools in Kota Kinabalu.
History
The school was named in conjunction with the name of the location of this school. This name was chosen by the first school principal, Haidon Hadi Sapiri, in 1990.
With the school establishment, the number of Islamic high school was added in Sabah. The school was located at Bukit Padang. The building was originally the site of the Sabah Campus of National University of Malaysia that was established in 1979. Then, it moved to Menggatal. The school was situated 4 kilometers from the state capital of Kota Kinabalu.
The school was established on first December 1990. The school establishment intended by the Sabah Education Director in order to increase the number of religious schools in the state. The founders of the school is 12, headed by Haidon Hadi Sapiri as the Founder Principal, his deputy, Adenan Hussin, Mohd. Rozaimi Abdul Razak, A. Ismail, Anuar Jasimin, Melih Bidin, Mahyani Simih, Azlan Sukir, Wan Jah Hasbullah, Zaharah Bani Yamin, Rosnani Harun, Noor Husnah Abdullah and Nasif Kasim as the clerk.[1]
The school registration begins on January 1, 1991. The first generation of the school is 205 students from 4 classes of Form One and 3 classes of Form Four.
On April 12, 2011, Kota Kinabalu City Hall through Mayor Abidin Madingkir chose the school as the 31st School Without Rubbish in the city.[2]
School infrastructure
The school contains 16 blocks of buildings including 5 blocks for the hostel, 6 blocks are the classes rooms, 3 blocks for multipurpose functions, a block for technical and engineering functions, a block for ICT functions and 3 blocks of staff quarters.
6 academic blocks are equal to 48 classes while 3 multipurpose blocks is for library, lecture room, offices for assistant principals, counselor and pre-university lecturers, cooperative premises, 5 science labs and a language lab.
The school also has The Hall of Ibnu Taimiyyah, the Prayer Hall of ar-Rahman, 2 sport arenas, a field, an official residence for the Principal, two official residences for the Assistant Principals and 2 bungalows to senior teachers.
Classes
The name of classes has no turning as the name of classes is usable every year. Currently, the name of classes in the school is Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Daud, Tarmizi, An-Nasaie (obsoleted) and Ibnu Majah (obsoleted).
However, the pre-university classes have no name as they use the course taken as the class name.
The school provides science stream, engineering stream[3] and accountancy stream[3] for Form Four and Form Five; and Usuluddin course and history course for pre-university students.
