Sabadell Solbank was a Spanish bank owned by Banco de Sabadell, which focussed on retail banking for Europeans living in the tourist areas of southern Spain. In 2014, it was fully integrated into the parent company.
The bank was established as Banco Halifax Hispania in 1993, the Spanish subsidiary of UK-based Halifax Building Society and mainly served about 50,000 British expatriate mortgage customers.
In 1997, Halifax demutualised and, in 2001, it merged with the Bank of Scotland to form HBOS. Under the provisions of the HBOS Group Reorganisation Act 2006, the assets and liabilities of Halifax transferred to Bank of Scotland, with Halifax retained as a trading name in England and Wales.
In 2010, following the acquisition of HBOS by Lloyds TSB Group (subsequently renamed Lloyds Banking Group), Lloyds TSB Spain and Banco Halifax's 28 branches became Lloyds Bank International.
In April 2013, Lloyds Banking Group reached an agreement to sell the bank to Grupo Banco Sabadell.[1] The Lloyds Bank name was used under temporary licence.[2] The bank was renamed Sabadell Solbank in November 2013 and was fully integrated into Banco Sabadell on 15 March 2014.[3]
