Safestore is the UK’s largest and Europe’s second largest provider of self-storage.[4][5] It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

History

Safestore was founded in the UK in 1998,[6] and floated on the Alternative Investment Market that year. In 2003, the company delisted from the Alternative Investment Market after a Bridgepoint-backed £39.8 million Management Buyout led by Steve Williams (Chief Executive at the time).[7]

In 2004, Safestore acquired Mentmore plc[8] for £209 million who were trading under the ‘Spaces’ brand in the UK and as the ‘Une Pièce en Plus’ (UPEP) brand in France. UPEP were co-founded in 1998 by the current Safestore Group CEO Frederic Vecchioli.[9]

The company has been listed in the London Stock Exchange since 2007.[10] In April 2013, Safestore was converted into a real estate investment trust (REIT).[11]

Operations

Their principal operations are located in the UK, where it has 95 stores including two business centres and a further 24 stores in Paris trading as Une Pièce en Plus. In addition, there are 12 Space Maker stores under management.[12][13][14][15]
