Sanam Saeed (Urdu: صنم سعید is a Pakistani actress, singer and model.

Early life and modelling career

Sanam is British born Pakistani actress who shifted to Pakistan when she was six years old. She did her O-level from Bay View High School Karachi and A-level from L'Ecole College.Saeed started modelling at the age of 16. [2] In Paper Magazine, Saeed confessed that the reason she quit modelling was due to her increasingly becoming conscious about her looks for the first time in her life.[3]

Acting career

Saeed started her acting career with a supporting role in the 2010 ARY Digital serial, Daam opposite Aamina Sheikh and Sanam Baloch. Saeed played the role of Fiza.[4]

The following year she played the lead female role in Mera Naseeb, along with Syra Yousuf, Imran Aslam and Imran Abbas Naqvi.[5]

In 2012, Saeed played Yamina, an American Pakistani who is married to Adam, a wife beater (played by Junaid Khan) in Mehreen Jabbar's Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu an adaptation of Farhat Ishtiaq's novel of the same name. [6] Sanam played Kashaf Murtaza in Sultana Siddiqui's romantic drama Zindagi Gulzar Hai an adaption of Umera Ahmad's novel of the same name the same year.[4] In addition, Saeed played Bibi, a Syrian Christian single mother in Bee Gul's Talkhiyan, based on Arundhati Roy's novel The God of Small Things.[7] Saeed next played the role of Minah opposite Junaid Khan in the 2013 drama Kadoorat. [4] [8] The same year, she appeared in a series Ek Kasak Reh Gayi opposite alongside Mikaal Zulfiqar and Shukk opposite Adeel Hussain and Ayesha Khan. [8] Saeed also appeared opposite Ahsan Khan and Sarwat Gilani in the romantic telefilm Dil Mera Dhadkan Teri. [9]

Saeed also starred in two other Eid special telefilms Kahin Chand Na Sharma Jaye opposite Goher Mumtaz and Tamanna ki Tamanna opposite Bilal Khan and Mathira in 2013. [10][11]

In 2014, Saeed's played Aiman opposite Mohib Mirza, Noor Hassan Rizvi and Junaid Khan in Firaaq.[8] Sanam was later cast in the role of Ruhina Behroze Khan alongside Maya Ali, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Osman Khalid Butt and Abid Ali in Diyar-e-Dil aired in 2015. She played a middle-class girl who marries her class fellow Behroze Khan (played by Zulfiqar), against his family members' wishes.[12]

She has completed Anjum Shahzad's biographical film Mah-e-Meer with Fahad Mustafa and Iman Ali, describing it as the first "glamorous" role of her career. [13] The film is scheduled to release on May 6, 2016. [14] She played the role of Aalia in Nasir Khan's romantic thriller Bachaana with Mohib Mirza, which released on February 26, 2016.[15]

Music career

Saeed had briefly appeared in third season of Coke Studio Pakistan where she sung background vocals on "Alif Allah (Jugni)" by Arif Lohar and Meesha Shafi, "Aisha" by Amanat Ali and "Chori Chori" by Meesha Shafi as a backing vocalist.[16]

Musical theater

Sanam has worked for Made for Stage Productions in the following stage plays: Chicago, Mamma Mia!, Carnage, Dhaani and Grease.[17][18][19][20][21][22]

Personal life

She married her childhood friend, Farhan Hassan, who is a banker from Karachi, on 2 January 2015.[23]
