Sanathana Sarathi is the official monthly magazine of the Sathya Sai Organisation, published by the Sri Sathya Sai Books and Publications Trust.[1] The English translation of the word Sanathana Sarathi means `Eternal Charioteer'. ("It signifies the presence of the Lord in every being as the atma guiding their lives like a charioteer.")[2] This monthly magazine was first published in 1958.[2]
"The magazine is published in English and Telugu by Sri Sathya Sai Books and Publications Trust from Prasanthi Nilayam."[3] (It is based in Sathya Sai Baba's ashram Prashanthi Nilayam.) The magazine is published in Assamese, Bengali, Gujarathi, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Sindhi and Tamil apart from some foreign languages.[3] People living outside India can also subscribe to this magazine. The English edition is slated for posting on the 10th and the Telugu version on the 23rd of every month.[3]
Articles written in Sanathana Sarathi are sometimes found on the Radio Sai website.[4]
Mission statement
"The magazine is an instrument to disseminate spiritual knowledge for the moral, physical and mental uplift of humanity without any discrimination."[2]
Sathya Sai Baba states, "From this day, our Sanathana Sarathi will lead to victory the cohorts of truth - the Vedas, the Sastras and similar scriptures of all faiths, against the forces of the ego such as injustice, falsehood, immorality and cruelty. This is the reason why it has emerged. This Sarathi will fight in order to establish world prosperity. It is bound to sound the paean of triumph when universal Ananda is achieved."[2]
