Saturnino Canaveri (18541939) was an Argentine military, officer during the Conquest of the Desert.[1]

Biography

Canaveri was born 1854 in Buenos Aires. His parents were Lt. Francisco Canaveris and Ofelia Segrestán (inhabitant of Temperley),[2] daughter of Jorge Pascual Segrestan native of Paris and María Uriarte (Argentina).[3]

In 1878, Saturnino Canaveri served as a Lieutenant of cavalry during the expeditions against the Indians in the Conquest of the Desert.[4] His military missions include, having participated in the Combate de Aluminé, occurred on February 18, 1883, during tasks of exploration and topographical recognition, commanding by the General Conrado Villegas in the Río Negro and Neuquén.[5] Canaveri had been commissioned to pursue of Ancapi Ñancucheo, a brave Pehuenche chief.[6] Ñancucheo had their huts on the Chimehuin River, time later he became part of the Argentine Army.[7]

During the Revolution of 90, the now Major Canaveri, remained loyal to the government.[8]

In 1900, Saturnino Canaveri was retired from the army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.[9]
