Semiliguda (also spelled as Similiguda) is a small town located in the Koraput district of the state Odisha, India. Similiguda is often known as second kashmir of Odisha. The population mainly comprises migrants from other parts of Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh though there are a large number of the Koraputiyans as well.
History
Semiliguda was a small village in dense forest, inhabited by the native Koraputiya . With the development of the two townships nearby: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in 1968 and National Aluminium Company in 1981, the area witnessed rapid development and commercialization attracting large number of people to come and set up their businesses there.Semiliguda is one of the best tourist place in Koraput district because of its beauty of nature. It has better facility than the nearby HAL and NALCO township. It has many temples including Shiva, Ganga, Hanuman, Tarini, Durga, Ram, etc. It has an ICSE school - Jeevan Jyothi Convent School, an engineering college SCITM - Samantha Chandrashekhar Institute of Technology and Management and a Semiliguda College. Semiliguda is known for its commercialisation, development, natural beauty and also the beautiful people settling there.
Present day
Semiliguda has been a victim of the Naxalism, with several incidents of business men being killed, or threatened for ransom, by the Naxals.[1] Such violence has resulted in a slowing of development in Semiliguda. The construction of Central University is under process.
Besides the native Koraputiyan people have also retaliated back because of the migratory population being the affluent class there and the native population being impoverished. They have resorted to several means of snatching the land or extracting money from the migratory population.
