Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SSCBS) is a constituent college of the University of Delhi, imparting education in the fields of management,finance and information technology. The college was established in 1987 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development as the first collegiate business college in India.
History
The college was established as 'College of Business Studies' under the aegis of the Delhi University in 1987. Dr.S S Gulshan was behind the idea of undergraduate business management education, and was appointed as the Principal of the college.
In 1991, the College of Business Studies was the first college in Delhi University to adopt the semester system, for its BBS course. After 19 years, the semester system was then implemented in all courses across the university in 2010.[1]
The college was rechristened as 'Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies' in 1997, after Indian revolutionary Sukhdev Thapar who along with Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru became part of independence folklore.
In 1999, the college became the only college in the country to offer the BFIA programme, a core Finance based programme spread over six semesters. SSCBS is the only college in the Delhi University to offer the BFIA course.[2]
From May 2013 onwards, the BBS courses have been transformed to form BMS (Bachelor in Management Studies), which is directly under the aegis of FMS (Faculty of Management Studies), University of Delhi and offers the B.sc honours in computer science course.
SSCBS is known for its Society Culture throughout in Delhi University.[3]

The college offers B. Sc(Bachelor Of Science)in Computer Science. It also offers two other courses- Bachelor of Management Studies ( BMS) and Bachelor of Business Administration and Finance and Investment Analysis (BFIA).

Admissions
The admission process for BMS and BFIA course is different from the regular cut-offs based on Class XII results, as followed in other colleges of the University. The Faculty of Management Studies, undertakes the responsibility for admissions in the course BMS. Selection criteria for prospective students consist of (weightage in admission decisions given in brackets)
1. An objective written test, the Joint Entrance Test (JAT) - includes a wide variety of questions on verbal skills, quantitative skills, logic, business knowledge, and current affairs.(50%)
2. Performance in Class XII Examination (English, Mathematics are compulsory subjects).(30%)
3.Personal Interview(10%) and Group discussion(10%)
The admission to BMS/BFIA course is one of the most competitive in Delhi University with more than 30,000 applications in 2015.[4]
The admission to the B.Sc Computer Science programme is done solely on cut-offs based on Class XII performance.
The cutoff of this college is comparatively very high for this course.The college is considered as one of the best colleges in DU for both of its courses.Some of the leading Magazines and Portal ranked CBS as 2nd best Business Management College in Asia and ranks 1st in India at Undergraaduate level.[5]
Professional placements
The professional placements of its graduates and interns are maintained through a dedicated student team at the SSCBS Career Development Centre.[6]
In 2015, 61 companies recruited at CBS.
The highest packages offered to graduates of SSCBS are in excess of Rs. 1 million, with average packages of over Rs 550,000.[7]

Student life
Students at SSCBS have the opportunity to participate in a number of special events sponsored by the college.
Crescendo is a corporate-cum-cultural festival and the biggest event in SSCBS' annual calendar, a lively and casual event that brings together students and corporate representatives. Events at Crescendo include Musical Concert, Party Shuffle (DJ) Night, Music and Dance Competition, Debating Competition, Ad-Making and Corporate Quiz.
Convergence is the annual flagship business convention of CBS. .[8]
Adrenaline is the annual sports fest of SSCBS, spanning as long as for 25 days continuously in the month of January–February. The winter Olympics of CBS accommodates 16 Events in 7 Sports - namely Volleyball, Soccer, Cricket (CCL), Athletics, Table Tennis, Badminton & Chess.
Manthan is generally a 15- to 20-day event during which street plays are performed at malls, historical monuments, gardens, schools, and other public places by various colleges of Delhi University, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, and IIT. Each performance is followed by a small discussion with the audience present. These discussions are facilitated by NGOs.
Sanganak the annual technical fest of SSCBS aims at inculcating and shocasing the tech fire in its students.Its events include bITz – The Biz-Tech Quiz, DeCodeEnmITy – The LAN Battle,Video Mashup, #Tweet2win,DECRPYT – The IT Crossword,App-t-IT-ude – The Nokia S40 Gaming App Competition and many more.
'Dell Social Innovation Competition 2011' was organized by The University of Texas at Austin and Dell for the fifth consecutive year with the goal of bringing visibility and public recognition to thousands of social entrepreneurs worldwide. India through SIFE SSCBS (Students in Free Enterprise team of 'Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies', University of Delhi) for the first time in history of the competition emerged as one of the finalists from over 1450 teams that applied worldwide. SIFE SSCBS was awarded witho Third prize consisting of the trophy and $10,000 and the People’s Choice Award, consisting of the trophy and $1000.
Reminiscence, an alumni dinner organized by the CBS Alumni Association, is a platform for CBS alumni and current students to interact with each other and to contribute to their mutual development.
