Shahzad Khalil (Urdu: شهزادخلیل), was a Pakistani television Director and TV Producer.[1]

Personal life

Shahzad Khalil started his career as a director producing music videos in 1970,[2] and then moved into drama serials. After a few projects he moved from PTV Lahore to Karachi Center.

The Government of Pakistan gave Khali the Pride of Performance award in 1986 and named a street after him in Karachi.[3]

Khali's wife is a veteran Pakistani Actress. They have two children, Ibrahim and Umar.

Career

Khalil was not only an intelligent TV Director but he had a great personality, who got fame in a very short period of time from his directed dramas for Pakistan Television. He gained his first recognition as director for his TV serial Teesra Kinara in 1980 in which several legendary actors participated like Sahira Kazmi, Usman Peerzada, Rahat Kazmi, Shafi Mohammad and Jamil Fakhri. Shahzad Khalil met Badar Khalil in his directed play 'Bi Jamalo', in which she played the title role of 'Bi Jamalo' and later they had married and have two children.

Shahzad Khalil's classic drama Tanhaiyaan was aired in 1985. Veterans cast acted in this serial such as Shehnaz Sheikh, Marina Khan, Badar Khalil, Azra Sherwani, Asif Raza Mir, Behroze Sabzwari, Qazi Wajid, Jamshed Ansari, Yasmeen Ismail, Durdana Butt, Mohammad Yousaf, Sultana Zafar, Subhani Ba Younas and Imtiaz Ali.[4][5] Haseena Moin, writer of Tanhaiyaan said: 'The experience of working with Shehzad was wonderful. He was a thorough gentleman and extremely good in his work.'[6]

The legendary Shahzad Khalil introduced several TV Stars like Shafi Muhammad Shah in Teesra Kinara and Samina Peerzada in Panah[7] etc. who became super stars in Pakistani television industry.[8]

In 2014, when his wife Badar Khalil finally packed her bags to go and live with her son in Canada and she said in an interview with Dawn News that:

PTV is celebrating its 50th anniversary; I don't see any remembrance for Shahzad Khalil. Are people so easily forgotten? It is hard to believe!"[9]

Khalil is known as one of the best directors of Pakistan and he will always be remembered in drama history of Pakistan for his work.[10]Indus TV Network presented Special Award to the director Shehzad Khalil for his outstanding contribution to TV in the 1st Indus Drama Awards in 2005, presented by Agha Nasir and Ghazanfar Ali, received by Badar Khalil.[11]

Death

He died of cardiac arrest in December 23, 1988. His funeral prayers were held at Defence Housing Authority. He was buried in the Defence graveyard Karachi.[12]
