Sheerness Swimming Club & Lifeguard Corps
The Sheerness Swimming Club was founded in 1884. The Sheerness Lifeguard Corps was formed on 17 April 1959. The two Clubs merged on 2 February 1969 to become The Sheerness Swimming Club & Lifeguard Corps. The Club celebrated its 125-year anniversary in 2009 and is still serving the residents of the Isle of Sheppey by providing instruction to total non-swimmers, improvers and competitive standard swimmers. The Club also provides life-saving instruction and personal survival training. During the period from June to September members provide lifeguard cover on Sundays at the bathing beach on Sheerness seafront.
